About Department of Botany
The department of Botany established in June, 1968, has its unique place in the glorious history of the Vaidyanath College. After being established the department soon reached to fame in the region by the innovative efforts of former head Mrs. V. S. Kale and later by Dr. S. B. Kale. Dr. S.B. Kale, after being recognized as ‘Research Guide’ in the subject of Botany, started active research in the department N. T. Deshmukh was appointed as lecturer in 1973. The department is recognized as Research centre for Ph.D. from 1974. The well equipped laboratories are the backbone of the department. It is a matter of pride that the department has a large botanical garden. Medicinal and aromatic plants’ section adds to the beauty & utility of the garden. The garden also harbors rare and endangered plants besides ornamentals. Well built museum of the department has remained as the unique identity among the region. Under the guidance of Dr. S.B. Kale six students completed their doctoral degrees. Headship of the department was handed over to Dr. N. T. Deshmukh on 26th June 1993. A “Marathwada Regional Conference on traditional Medicines & Jantas” was organized during 26- 28 January 1996. Dr. T. A. Gitte joined as a lecturer on 06/09/2007, presently shouldering the responsibility of Head of the department. The department harbors advanced ICT teaching tools like LCD Projector, internet connection. It is well equipped with Labomed 4-D Zoom Stereoscope, Anatomy Research Binocular microscope. Dr. T. A. Gitte, promoted through CAS as Professor in December, 2023. He has been recognized as Research Guide in Botany by the parent university. Presently one student is working under his guidance. Dr. S. V. Kirwale joined as an Assistant Professor in 09-12-2019. The department actively engages in various student centric activities like Study Tours, Guest Lectures, Plantation activities on and off the campus etc. In collaboration with ‘Koutilya Green Club, NSS, NCC, the department carries various activities like celebration of World Water Day, campus beatification
etc.
