About Department:

The Department of Sociology was started in June 1968. Initially, Shri M.S. Ardhapure was appointed as Lecturer and Head of the Department in 1973, Shri V.W. Deshmukh was appointed as Lecturer. Shri M.S. Ardhapure worked in the department from 1968 to 1997. Shri V.W. Deshmukh worked actively in the department since his appointment. He was the NSS Program Officer for 13 years. He was a member of the Management Council, Academic Council, B.O.S. in Sociology, Chairman of the Grievance Committee at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. After the retirement of Shri M.S. Ardhapure, Dr. V.W. Deshmukh was appointed as the Head of the Department in 1997. Dr. V.W. Deshmukh worked in the department from 1973 to 2010. After the retirement of Dr. V.W. Deshmukh, Dr. R.D. Rathod was appointed as the Head of the Department. Dr.R.D. Rathod has completed UGC – Minor Research Project Entitled “A Case Study of Martyr’s Family in Beed District’ (2011-2013). Dr.R.D. Rathod is a Research Guide in Sociology and 05 research scholars are working under his supervision. Department runs a postgraduate course in Sociology. Dr. R. D. Rathod is the Co-ordinator of PG. Dr. R. D. Rathod was nominated on the Board of Studies of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in 2017. Dr. P. D. Dixit was appointed as a Lecturer on CHB in the department in July 2023.
