The Department of Zoology is one of the oldest and most prestigious departments of our institution. Established in 1968, it has a rich legacy of academic excellence and research. The Postgraduate (PG) Department was introduced in 2000, further strengthening our commitment to higher education in life sciences.

Leadership and Legacy

The foundation of the department was laid under the leadership of Dr. M.D. Jawale, who served as the Head of the Department, a Research Guide, Principal of the college, and Dean of the Faculty of Science. Following him, Mr. V.B. Deshpande joined the department on 26th June 1968 and later retired as Head of the Department.

In 1972, Dr. A.R. Kurme joined the department, contributing as a Research Guide, Head, and later as Principal of the institution. Currently, Professor Dr. J.V. Jagatkar serves as the Head of the Department, continuing the legacy of excellence. We take great pride that three of our senior faculty members Dr. M.D. Jawale, Dr. A.R. Kurme, and Dr.

J.V. Jagatkar have had the honor of leading the college as Principals.

Professor Dr. V.B. Gaikwad has significantly contributed as a PG Coordinator, Research Guide, and Member of the Board of Studies in Zoology (2017–2022). Recently, Dr. Mrs. A.A. Kanpurne has joined the department as a Contributory Faculty Member.

Faculty members regularly publish in reputed national and international journals, and the department has received two major and one minor research projects sanctioned by the UGC.
